Do you live in anticipation and expectation of Jesus’ second coming? The Thessalonians lived in the hope of Christ’s second coming. They had many questions about His return, and Paul answered them in his writings.
Many biblical prophecies have been filled in the last century that are described in Scripture as leading up to Jesus’ return. While we do not know the day or the hour, we can be certain we are living in the season of Christ’s second coming and can therefore have hope!
The Thessalonians asked 3 questions that many of us ask today that point us to the hope we have in Christ’s second coming…
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A CHRISTIAN DIES?
TODAY WHEN A CHRISTIAN DIES, their body goes into the grave, but their soul goes immediately to heaven in God’s presence. (See 2 Corinthians 5:4-8)
WHEN JESUS RETURNS, the bodies of those who have died in Christ will rise from the grave to be reunited with their souls. (See 1 Corinthians 15:35-58, 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17)
WHAT IS THE RAPTURE?
THE RAPTURE IS where Christ returns FOR His bride. The second coming is when Christ returns WITH His bride. (See 2 Corinthians 11:1-2)
WE SHOULD BE PREPARING TO SEE JESUS by pursuing a life that is holy and living for the things of eternity.
HOW DOES THIS GIVE US HOPE AND COMFORT?
SOON THERE WILL BE NO MORE SIN. Sickness. Sadness. Death. Destruction. Darkness. Depression. 1 Corinthians 2:9 says, “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man, the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”
LIFE IS A “VAPOR.”(See James 4:14) Life appears for a little while but then vanishes away. In Christ, there is so much more, and it lasts for eternity.
