“’But who do you say that I am?’ Simon Peter answered and said, ‘You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.’”—Matthew 16:15-16
Are you new to following Jesus and want to grow in your relationship with Him? At Abundant Life, we have resources and steps you can take that will encourage and strengthen you on your journey.
WHO IS JESUS TO YOU
Jesus wants to have a personal relationship with you. Have you received Him as your personal Savior?
The Bible says that we have all sinned and fall under God’s judgment (Romans 3:23).
The Bible says that God loves us, and wants to save us. So He sent His Son, Jesus, to save us from the consequences of sin. Jesus died on the cross to pay the penalty we deserve (Romans 5:8).
God offers us the gift of eternal life. This gift becomes ours when we receive it (Romans 6:23).
Because Jesus was sinless, He is the only one who can be the perfect sacrifice and pay the price (2 Corinthians 5:21).
The Bible promises that when you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (Romans 10:9)
WHO IS JESUS TO YOU
Find another follower of Jesus and begin a one-on-one discipleship or mentorship relationship. Your mentor will encourage you, help you know how to apply God’s Word to your life, pray with you, and teach you what a life transformed by Jesus looks like. Your mentor is someone who you can do life with! Our faith in Jesus should be marked by a life change, and discipleship is how God planned for that change to happen. Do you have questions about discipleship? Click here.
Discipline is a word our culture doesn’t like. However, discipline simply means training. As you discover more about who Jesus is to you, you will need spiritual training to grow strong in your relationship with God and be able to overcome the things life throws at you. By practicing spiritual disciplines, you are learning how to abide, pray, get to know the heart of God, live out your faith with others, and tell others about Jesus. WHO IS JESUS TO YOU
Abiding is to remain, live, and be in union with Jesus in your everyday life. It involves seeking Him and recognizing your dependence on Him. It means allowing the Word of God to fill your mind and direct your steps, which leads to a transformed life.
“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.”—John 15:5
Abiding is an attitude of praise for the things, people, and circumstances God brings into your life. It’s an attitude of meditating on His goodness, sovereignty, grace, and mercy.
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”—Philippians 4:6-7
Praying according to God’s Word is powerful. Use the A.C.T.S. model from the video above to guide you as you pray (A-adoration, C-confession, T—thanksgiving, S—supplication). God’s Word says that, because of Jesus, you have access to the God of the universe (Hebrews 4:16). You can personally talk to Him as a Friend and Father personally. God hears your prayers and wants to speak into your situation.
“Your words were found, and I ate them, and Your Word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart.”—Jeremiah 15:6
The Bible is God’s Word. Use the S.O.A.P method described in the video above and start reading the book of John if you are new to reading scripture (S—scripture, O—observation, A—application, P—prayer). It is a privilege to read and discover more about God’s heart and ways towards you through His written Word. When you begin reading your Bible, God will reveal more and more of who He is and how to walk out your salvation in Jesus.
“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”—Galatians 6:2
We were designed to be in a community with others. God—being 3 in 1—is surrounded by community. This is how God designed us. People need people. So then, step out and surround yourself with people of faith rather than retreating to old ways. Find community at Abundant Life and ask: How am I growing? How am I struggling? How am I sharing Christ with others?

“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” –Romans 5:8
Evangelism is telling others, those who are far from God, about the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ. It is about living on mission. We encourage you to commit the following verses to memory that will help you share the gospel simply and biblically: Romans 3:23, Romans 5:8, Romans 6:23, Romans 10:9-10.
