Kindergarten & Pre-K, June 27: Elijah and the Fire

Do you trust God with everything? Big and small, joy and sorrow, friend and adversary? What are you actually willing to let go of and give to God? Think about it for a minute. Do you only give God the big stuff so as not to distract Him with the little stuff? Or is it the little stuff you give Him because you are afraid to ask Him about the big stuff?

It is when we completely trust God that we have true peace. Philippians 4:6 says, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” In EVERYTHING, not just the big or just the small things, but in everything give it to God.

We want our kids to know that God CAN do anything. While He may not do it the way we think it should be done, it is often so much better. In our story, we want kids to see how wonderous God is because He CAN do anything. And because God can do anything, why wouldn’t we trust Him with EVERYTHING? I know if I did, it would save me from a lot of worry and anxiousness. How about you?

Here is a snapshot of what we will show the kids this week:
Bible Story Focus: God can do anything. (Elijah and the Fire • 1 Kings 18)
Memory Verse: “I trust in God. I am not afraid.” Psalm 56:11, NIrV
Key Question: Who can trust God?
Bottom Line: I can trust God.

Bible Story & Worship
Watch the Bible Story Video with your kids so you can recap and discuss it with them in the “Bring Jesus To Their Level” section. Then join your kids in worship as we sing and dance for God.

Worship – Jesus No Matter What
Worship – Bye Bye Bye

Next, use the Memory Verse video to practice our monthly verse. We have practiced this verse all month long. If you can, have a fun reward you can give them week when they are able to say it all by themselves during our “Bring Jesus To Their Level” section. The activity sheet and coloring page are fun resources to help reinforce story and/or big idea.

Bring Jesus To Their Level
Finish up your church at home by recapping the story. Have a reward ready for your child and have them try the memory verse on their own. Then say: “Today’s Bible story was about how God can do ANYTHING. Like, He really can do ANYTHING! And Elijah wanted all of the people to know that God is the one true God and can do ANYTHING. That’s why Elijah prayed for God to send down fire. He wanted the people to see and believe.”

God being able to do ANYTHING is another reason why we can trust God! That’s why we’re learning this verse. It says ‘I trust in God. I am not afraid,’ Psalm 56:11.

Today, we’ll make a list of things we want to say to God. It can be ANYTHING! God loves it when we talk to Him about everything. (Have each family member list something).

This list is so good! We’ll use it when we pray. Would anyone like to pray before I pray?”(Give each child who wants to pray the opportunity to do so).

PRAYER: “Dear God, thank You for always being with us and hearing us when we talk to You. Today, [family member’s name] wants to say (read what they listed), and [family member’s name] wants to say (read what they listed), and . . . (continue with each family member). We believe we can trust You with everything and that You can do ANYTHING. You are awesome, God! We love You, God. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

As we wrap up, I would like to leave you with one of the kids’ favorite ‘good-bye’ songs:
Let Me See Your Alligator

Thank you for the opportunity to partner with you in the discipleship of your kid(s). My prayers are with you.
