Kindergarten & Pre-K, January 31: Healing the Blind Man

All month we have looked at true stories from the Bible that show just a glimpse of how amazing Jesus is. These stories help us see that there is no end to what Jesus can do. This week is no different as we look at the story of Jesus healing a blind man. While Jesus healed this man’s actual vision, Jesus has lifted the darkness from the eyes of all believers.

So, as we take our children through this story, I want to challenge each of you to remember back to when you were blind and walking in darkness. Remember how you felt as those blinders came off and you stood in the light, mercy, grace, and love of Jesus. Only Jesus, our amazing God, could do that. Let us give Him praise, honor, and glory for allowing us to “see” and loving us even when we do not deserve it.

Here is a snapshot of what we will show the kids this week:
Bible Story Focus: Jesus is amazing. (Healing the Blind Man • John 9:1-12)
Memory Verse: “Everyone who heard Him was amazed.” Luke 2:47, NIV
Key Question: Who is amazing?
Bottom Line: Jesus is amazing.

Bible Story & Worship
Watch the Bible Story Video with your kids so you can recap and discuss it with them in the “Bring Jesus To Their Level” section. Then join your kids in worship. Most of us think of worship as just singing. But whatever you do, if you do it for God, then you are worshiping God. So, help show your kids this concept as you sing and dance with them for our amazing God.

Next, use the Memory Verse video to remind your kids before they say it on their own. We’ve practiced this verse all month so they should be ready. Be sure to have a reward (it can be a special snack, a sticker, or prize of some sort) you can give them during the “Bring Jesus To Their Level” section. The activity sheet and coloring page are fun resources to help reinforce story and/or big idea.

Bring Jesus To Their Level
Finish up your church at home by recapping the story and rewarding them for saying the memory verse all by themselves. We heard a lot of stories about the amazing things Jesus has done. So today, let’s pray about the most amazing thing Jesus wants to do. Jesus wants to be YOUR friend forever. It’s true! Jesus wants to be [your child’s name]’s friend forever and [family member’s name]’s friend forever and . . . (repeat with each family member’s name)!

PRAYER: “Dear God, thank You for giving us the best friend we could ever have! Thank You that Jesus is alive today and He wants to be (name each family member) friend forever. I pray we will never ever forget how amazing Jesus is. You’re the best, God, and we love You, very much. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

As we wrap up, I would like to leave you with one of the kids’ favorite ‘good-bye’ songs:
Let Me See Your Alligator

Thank you for the opportunity to partner with you in the discipleship of your kid(s). My prayers are with you.

“Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.’”

Matthew 19:14
