Have you ever been amazed at something your child said? Sometimes it makes you want to shake your head or even hide under a rock, but, other times, it amazes you to hear something so profound come from someone so young. Children can often see things far more clearly than we do. They grasp the simplicity of it while we, the adults, tend to make it overly complicated.
It is with that childlike wonder that we want to look at some of the amazing things Jesus did while He walked among us. As adults, we take for granted that, yeah, Jesus did these things. But stop! And really think about what He did. Slow down and allow the awe and wonder of how amazing Jesus is to truly wash over you. Even as a young boy, Jesus was doing amazing things. Just as much as we are in awe when our kids do something amazing, so much more should we be in awe of everything Jesus did. Jesus is amazing!
Here is a snapshot of what we’ll show our kids this week:
Bible Story Focus: Jesus’ teaching is amazing. (Jesus Teaches at the Temple • Luke 2:41-50)
Memory Verse: “Everyone who heard him was amazed.” Luke 2:47, NIV
Key Question: Who is amazing?
Bottom Line: Jesus is amazing.
Bible Story & Worship
Watch the first video with your kids so you can recap and discuss it with them in the “Bringing Jesus To Their Level” section. Then join your kids in worship. Most of us think of singing as the way we worship God but remember, whatever you do, if you do it for God, is a form of worship. So, help show your kids this concept as you sing and dance with them for our amazing God.

Activities
Next, use the Memory Verse video to practice the verse with your kids. We will practice this verse all month so think of a reward you can give them at the end of the month when they say it all by themselves. The activity sheet and coloring page are fun resources to help reinforce what they have learned.

Bring Jesus To Their Level
Finish up your church at home by recapping the story and practicing the memory verse again. Jesus was teaching the grown-ups at the temple about God when He was only a child. That is pretty amazing! Jesus was always doing amazing things when He lived on Earth. Jesus still teaches us A LOT of things about God. He teaches us that God loves us, God forgives us, God is patient with us, God is always with us, God cares about us, God made us, God can do anything, God is good, God knows our name—whew! SO many amazing things! Have each family member say one thing they know about God (you’ll use the list when you pray.)
PRAYER: “Dear God, thank You for sending Jesus to do amazing things like teach us about YOU! Jesus is Your Son, so we can trust what He says about You. Jesus teaches us that . . . (read the list your family made). You are SO good, God! And we love You! In Jesus’ name, amen.”
As we wrap up, I would like to leave you with one of the kids’ favorite ‘good-bye’ songs:
Let Me See Your Alligator
Thank you for the opportunity to partner with you in the discipleship of your kid(s). My prayers are with you.
“Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.’”
Matthew 19:14
