Think of a time you were trying to accomplish something but nothing was working right. In that moment, did you turn to God or did you give up? Or how about a time when God told you to do something that just seemed impossible; you had already tried everything so it could not possibly work now. In that moment, did you give up or did you listen to God and press on? How often do we give up before allowing God to do what only God can do?
Luke 5 shows us a great example of this. After fishing all night and catching nothing, Jesus borrows Peter’s boat to teach to a multitude of people. When He was done teaching, He asks the fishermen to cast out their nets. This made no sense to them as they had already been trying all night with no luck. But against all odds, they trusted and listened and obeyed Jesus. They cast out their nets and caught such an abundance of fish that they had to call other boats over to help them pull it all in.
So in those moments, should we give up or should we give it to God? We can only see the amazing things God can do when we stop trying to control it ourselves and allow Him to do what only He can do.
Here is a snapshot of what we will show the kids this week:
Bible Story Focus: Jesus’ miracles are amazing. (Catching Fish • Luke 5:1-10)
Memory Verse: “Everyone who heard him was amazed.” Luke 2:47, NIV
Key Question: Who is amazing?
Bottom Line: Jesus is amazing.
Bible Story & Worship
Watch the Bible Story Video with your kids so you can recap and discuss it with them in the “Bringing Jesus To Their Level” section. Then join your kids in worship. Most of us think of worship as just singing. But whatever you do, if you do it for God, then you are worshiping God. So, help show your kids this concept as you sing and dance with them for our amazing God.

Activities
Next, use the Memory Verse video to practice the verse with your kids. This is the last week to practice this verse. Be sure to think of a reward you can give them next week when they say it all by themselves. The activity sheet and coloring page are fun resources to help reinforce what they have learned.

Bring Jesus To Their Level
Finish up your church at home by recapping the story and practicing the memory verse again. We
have talked all month about things only Jesus can do. Jesus can make people better, stop storms, and teach us about God. The most amazing thing Jesus ever did is when He died and came back, just like He said He would. Jesus is alive today, and He wants to be our friend forever. [Bottom Line] Jesus is amazing! Have each family member name their favorite Jesus miracle and you will use the list when you pray.
PRAYER: “Dear God, Jesus really is amazing! He did so many amazing things while He was on Earth, so we know that He is Your Son. Jesus (read the list your family made). And the thought that Jesus is alive today and wants to be our friend forever is the best news ever! Thank You, God! In Jesus’ name, amen”
As we wrap up, I would like to leave you with one of the kids’ favorite ‘good-bye’ songs:
Let Me See Your Alligator
Thank you for the opportunity to partner with you in the discipleship of your kid(s). My prayers are with you.“Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.’”
Matthew 19:14
