Have you ever received the best news ever and you could not wait to tell everyone about it? You would work it into every conversation because you were so excited? Imagine being a shepherd and seeing the sky light up with angels telling you the savior of the world had been born. And not only being told but seeing the baby with your own eyes. I do not think many of us would be able to keep that to ourselves.
While we may not be able to see angels in the sky, a lot of us have seen and felt the forgiveness that comes when we make Jesus lord of our lives. He is our savior and His birth is where it started. Not something we should keep to ourselves.
This week we’ll continue the true story of Christmas with our kids with the story of the angels telling the shepherds about Jesus. Through the story we will reinforce what Christmas is all about, Jesus. Why is Jesus special? [Bottom Line] Jesus is God’s Son.
Here is a snapshot of what we’ll show the kids this week:
Bible Story Focus: The angels tell about Jesus. (The Shepherds• Luke 2:8-20)
Memory Verse: “God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son.” John 3:16, GNT
Key Question: Why is Jesus special?
Bottom Line: Jesus is God’s Son.
Bible Story & Worship
Watch this video with your kids so you can recap and discuss it with them. Most of us think of singing as the way we worship God. But remember, whatever you do, if you do it for God, is a form of worship. Help show your kids this concept as you sing and dance with them for our amazing God.

Activities
Next, use the Memory Verse video to practice the verse with your kids. The hand motions help them will help them to remember as we practice this same verse all month long. Be thinking of a special prize you can give at the end of the month when they say it all by themselves. The activity sheet and coloring page are fun resources to help reinforce what they’ve learned.

Bring Jesus To Their Level
Finish up your church at home by recapping the story and practicing the memory verse again. Remind
them how the angel told the shepherds the good news about Jesus and, after they saw Baby Jesus, they ran and told the good news to everyone else! They wanted everyone to know about Jesus! Make a list with your family of people you can tell about Jesus (don’t forget yourself). Have them think of someone they know who they can tell the good news that God loved us so much He gave us Jesus! You will use the list when you pray.
PRAYER: “Dear God, Thank You for the people who have told us the good news that Jesus is Your Son and He wants to be our friend forever. Help [family member’s name] tell [name listed] about Jesus, and help [family member’s name] tell [name listed] about Jesus, and (continue with each family member). We want everyone to know the good news that Jesus is Your Son and He wants to be their friend forever. We love You, God. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
As we wrap up, I would like to leave you with one of the kids’ favorite ‘good-bye’ songs:
Let Me See Your Alligator
Thank you for the opportunity to partner with you in the discipleship of your kid(s). My prayers are with you.“But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons [and daughters].”
Galatians 4:4-5
