Elementary, September 4: Abram and Lot

Hi Journey Kids parents!

“Me, me, me!” We’ve all heard it. It’s hard to get along with others when we make everything about ourselves. This week, we’ll learn about the story of Abram and Lot. These two were fighting like cats and dogs! They couldn’t agree on anything, and it ruined their friendship. Good friends are great to have, but that doesn’t mean that it’s always easy to get along. God wants us to build our friendships not around selfishness and pride, but on humility and love.

When it’s time to begin, start your morning of family worship by watching the short lesson video with your kids. [You can access the videos here.] It’s a great way to engage spiritually with your family.

Here is a snapshot of the lesson details for this week:

Bible Story: Abram and Lot

Big Idea: God desires that we humbly put others before ourselves.

Memory Verse: “Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.” Philippians 2:3 (NLT)

After the video lesson and music, you can use the attached materials to help take your family deeper into the lesson:

It’s truly one of the toughest things to watch a relationship go bad. It can get downright messy. My hope this week is that we all remember how precious our friendships are. God made us to live out our lives alongside others, and it’s always worth the effort to keep our relationships healthy and God honoring.
