Hi Journey Kids parents!

Unity is a big deal to God. Division among His people absolutely breaks His heart. Yet, His people have often been divided because our sin drives us to pride, anger and jealousy. Perhaps the clearest example of this in the entire Bible is when the entire nation of Israel divided after the death of Solomon. This week, we’re digging into that story to find out just what went wrong and what God wants us to learn from it.

When it’s time to begin, start your morning of family worship by watching the short lesson video with your kids. [You can access the videos here.] It’s a great way to engage spiritually with your family. After the lesson is over, choose a worship song from the playlist to sing with your kids!

Here is a snapshot of the lesson details for this week:

Bible Story: The Kingdom Divided

Big Idea: Sin tears God’s people apart, so we should confess and turn away from our sinful desires.

Memory Verse: “Why do you fight and argue among yourselves? Isn’t it because of your sinful desires? They fight within you.” James 4:1 (NIrV)

After the video lesson and music, you can use the attached materials to help take your family deeper into the lesson:

The people of God should be marked by unity with one another. It still breaks God’s heart when we are divided. Consider your own life. Ask God to show you where there is division and ask Him to give you the grace you need to ask forgiveness where you’ve wronged others and to extend forgiveness to those that have wronged you. Let’s be a united people. Have an awesome week!
