Elementary, September 19: Joseph and His Brothers

Hi Journey Kids parents!

Joseph was betrayed by his brothers. They sold him into slavery. He was then accused of a crime he didn’t commit and was abandoned and forgotten for years. But God raised him up into leadership before coming face to face with his brothers. They didn’t recognize him. Joseph could have held his brothers’ sin against them – but he didn’t. He forgave them.

When it’s time to begin, start your morning of family worship by watching the short lesson video with your kids. [You can access the videos here.] It’s a great way to engage spiritually with your family.

Here is a snapshot of the lesson details for this week:

Bible Story: Joseph and His Brothers

Big Idea: God is forgiving, so we can forgive others.

Memory Verse: “’Be kind and tender to one another. Forgive each other, just as God forgave you because of what Christ has done.” Ephesians 4:32 (NIrV)

After the video lesson and music, you can use the attached materials to help take your family deeper into the lesson:

Forgiveness is hard. It means giving up our right to get even. It means giving up the right to take vengeance. But when we remember all that God has forgiven us, we can forgive others. I don’t know who you need to forgive this week, but I hope you’ll extend them that grace.
