What Is Child Dedication?
Child dedication is a ceremonial commitment to strive to be the parents God calls us to be before God and the church. It is an opportunity to make the commitment to live with God's Word on our heart and accept responsibility as the primary faith trainer of our children. It is also a time to acknowledge our children belong to God first and are given to us as a gift to steward, grow, and develop. Child dedication is ultimately a public commitment to pray continually for our children to come to know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and love our children unconditionally as Jesus does.
Child dedication is not baptism, nor does it impart salvation. Salvation happens when a child is old enough to make a decision on his or her own and the child chooses to receive Christ. From there, the child makes a decision to publicly declare their decision to follow Christ through baptism.
Your child is never too old for you to make the public commitment to be the parents God calls you to be and to acknowledge your child belongs to God. Whether they are newborns or newly graduated, all are welcome to dedicate their children.
What to Expect
At Abundant Life, we host Child Dedication four times a year at all our campus’. The Lee's Summit Campus will host during all three Sunday Services, while our Blue Springs and Independence Campus' will host them during the 11:15 AM Service only. We invite parents of the child being dedicated on stage where they are announced one by one. The Pastor then leads the church in a prayer over the families.
