Why and How to Bring Others to Christ

Is there a person in your life who has influenced your faith in Christ? Maybe someone gave you much-needed support during a difficult time. Perhaps your belief in humanity was restored through another person’s kindness and charity. There are various ways of seeing Christ’s work through others. These acts perfectly encapsulate what it’s like to bring others to Christ by using our thoughts, words, and actions as a medium for others to realize God’s Word.

To bring other people to Christ and move them in faith, we only have to look to the Bible for guidance.

Why Bringing Others to Christ Is Important

“And He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.’”Mark 16:15

Some people are devout Christians, yet they’re hesitant to share their faith with others. Why is this the case?

It’s often because they don’t realize the importance of sharing their faith. Many believers underestimate the impact we can each make when we bring others to Christ. However, there are several reasons we should be leading others to Jesus.

Fulfill God’s Command

It’s important to bring others to Christ because it’s our primary mission as believers in Him. As believers, we are called on to follow God’s command and become an advocate for His gospel by sharing our faith. Thus, it is essential to spread the message about His promised salvation to everyone who believes in Him.

Help Others Follow God

Leading people to Jesus gives them the opportunity to understand God’s ways and to live a life like Him. Learning about God’s Word gives them new insight into the promise of forgiveness for our sins and salvation. This encourages new believers to follow his ways.

Spread the Word

Sharing the gospel is about spreading the truth. It is our duty as followers of Christ to let the world hear the truth, especially those who need to be freed from sin and the ways of the world. We don’t need to go as far as starting a church house to make an impact; small acts can go a long way.

Follow Jesus’ Example

When we bring others to Christ, we follow His lead. He showed his disciples that choosing to follow Christ is not enough. We must also advocate for His words and seek to save those who are lost.

Find Your Purpose

Following Christ and hearing His Word opens our eyes to our purpose. The more we share the gospel with others, the more we experience enlightenment about our purpose and direction in life.

Biblical discipleship is part of our responsibility as members of the church and as followers of Christ. But, what are the steps to bring others to Christ?

The following actions will help you achieve this basic commandment of Christ…

1. Seize Moments of Opportunity to Encounter Christ

A true believer in Christ can identify moments of opportunity to encounter Christ through others. For example, let’s say you have a coworker who is struggling financially or personally. They are so mentally and spiritually down that every day feels like a challenge.

This moment is an opportunity to help them encounter Christ. Show them genuine kindness and support during this difficult time in their life. Let them feel that they are not alone. Be a source of support so they continue to rise above what is keeping them down.

You can invite that friend to church to hear about the Word of God and let them discover the positive impact it can make in their life. Seeing their life transformed by leading them to Christ is a wonderful blessing.

2. Share Your Story

Your life is the best testament of God’s Word as you are the living example of His gospel at work. If you firmly believe in God, you must not be shy to tell your story and be a source of inspiration for others. Next to the Bible itself, it is the next most powerful tool to bring others to Christ.

3. Join in Fellowship (and Invite Others)

Engaging in fellowship with your community is a fantastic way to lead others to Christ. This might involve various activities such as singing worship songs, participating in Bible study, and listening to sermons. These activities can inspire others about the wonderful ways God manifests in people’s lives. Further, it can open their eyes to the potential God has promised.

4. Advocate for the Gospel

In the modern age, there are several ways to communicate with and reach people beyond your local community. Social media and the internet have opened up a world of opportunities to share the gospel. Reading about the stories of other believers online is a great way to advocate for God’s Word and bring others to Christ.

5. Show, Don’t Tell

Actions speak louder than words. Living a good Christian life that personifies God’s teachings is the best way to inspire others to lead a God-centered life. Leading by example can do more for others than what our words can.

7 Bible Verses about Bringing Others to Christ

The Bible provides insight into how to bring others to Christ so that their lives—and yours—may be transformed.

1. “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’ Amen.”—Matthew 28:19-20

As believers, we have a responsibility to follow God’s command and spread His teachings to all people.

2. “How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?”—Romans 10:14

Sharing our faith and the gospel with others is about giving them the opportunity to believe in Christ and experience its impact on their lives.

3. “Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time. Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.”—Colossians 4:5-6

Preaching about our faith to nonbelievers requires patience and grace.

4. “…let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins.”—James 5:20

Bringing others to Christ is about turning them away from sin and helping them achieve salvation.

5. “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear.”—1 Peter 3:15

We must remember the value of respect and gentleness in sharing our faith with others.

6. “…to the weak I became as weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.”—1 Corinthians 9:22

Understanding the differences in people’s cultures, backgrounds, and struggles is crucial to successful discipleship.

7. “The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he who wins souls is wise.”—Proverbs 11:30

Bringing people to Christ offers great value to our lives and we stand to gain much wisdom from doing so.
