For more than 20 years, Abundant Life has been a church that speaks the truth and is known for love and a voice of hope. We have continued down that path right in the heart of Kansas City, Missouri, with the opening of Abundant Life Crossroads! The grand opening for our new location is Easter Sunday, April 9, 2023!
Why Is Abundant Life in the Crossroads District of Kansas City?
The Crossroads District of Kansas City was historically known as Midtown or the area between Downtown and Crown Center.
As Hollywood’s strong connection to Kansas City grew in the 1930s, the area became a “crossroads” for the movie industry, being a point of distribution with a centralized location for the nation. It has since become a place where creativity intersects with entrepreneurial ventures.
We believe this is the location God wants to intersect many lives for many years with His love made known through Jesus.
God’s Work from the Beginning
There were several partnerships God made possible to do the impossible. He brought together building owners and people on the Crossroads Community Association for the dream to become a reality.
For the past two years, God has worked through the people of Abundant Life, partners, and many others to fulfill His Words in Ephesians 3:20-21…
- “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”
By God’s Grace…
By God’s grace, Abundant Life Crossroads buildings were paid for in cash. There were many renovations to be done after purchasing, but the community of Abundant Life stepped up to make the impossible possible.
During the renovation process, we paused to praise and worship God, dedicating this new location to His work in the Crossroads District of Kansas City.
We Want to Meet People Where They Are
People moved out of the city for the last 30 years of the 20th century. At the turn of the century, there was a shift. People began moving back into downtowns for the first 20 years of the 21st century. God wants us to meet people where they are. This is why He made Abundant Life Crossroads possible—so we would go to the city’s heart and be living proof of a loving God to a watching world.
There Is an Urgency. Many Are in a State of Emergency.
One of Abundant Life Crossroads’ buildings was built in the 1890s. It was a firehouse. Those who worked there moved with urgency. We believe God is speaking to the Church, telling us it is a time to move with urgency because so many are in a state of emergency.
In some ways, the world is burning around us. But we have the good news of the gospel, and we can point them to the River of Living Water—Jesus—in the City of Fountains—Kansas City.
In John 7:37-38, Jesus said, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”
Many are thirsty. Let’s show them Jesus.
Many are brokenhearted, going through trials of various kinds, and looking for answers and truth.
Church, let’s point them to the One who can completely change their lives…
- Turning their anger into joy
- Replacing pain with love
- Trading bitterness for forgiveness
